Why You Need A Postpartum Doula

So many people spend months preparing for conception and birth but seem to overlook one final aspect to their prenatal & pregnancy care… Postpartum. Known as the Fourth Trimester, the twelve weeks after you give birth is a sensitive and sacred time - one that deserves care, nourishment & peace amidst all the changes happening to your body - mind - and spirit.

We unfortunately live in a world where there is a term called “bounce-back culture” meaning, women and birthing people are expected to go back to how they once lived their lives, before baby, the minute their newborn makes their arrival. Think: lack of nutrient dense meals, high intensity workouts, going out with friends and family for hours on end with no schedule in sight. I hate to be the bearer of ‘bad news’ but… it is near impossible to thrive in that go-go-go state if you have also just given birth. You have to give yourself time to heal and integrate everything that just occurred in your life!

You deserve time to rest in your postpartum period. The goal is to be nourished and rested so that you can care for baby in a calm and regulated state. The best way to achieve this is by having a Postpartum Doula as your support person. Think about it: If a Birth Doula is your advocate and support person during your birth - the same goes for your Postpartum Doula. They are a neutral and caring person, that can also still be there if you envision having family support you as well… (only, a Postpartum Doula keeps their opinions to themselves and never oversteps your boundaries!). The biggest benefit to having a blissful Fourth Trimester - you will be set up for a strong and healthy postnatal period (think, 1-2 years after you gave birth) and you will feel a strong, bonded connection with your baby
